"Think you can't change the world? Too late, you already have. It was changed for the better the minute you were born. There are more people than you can imagine who will never be the same because they came in contact with you, if only for a fleeting moment." ~Gail Purcell

Are You Up for the Challenge?

I have found another challenge that I am eager to join. I hope that you will join as well. One thing about school being out, and the weather being super humid and hot (summer school doesn't start until next week) is that I don't feel like doing much of anything except eating popsicles and sitting in front of the fan.

While catching up on my blog reading I found a new one and my new challenge. It is the 90 Days of Kindness Challenge.

I do try to be kind most of the time, however I have noticed myself getting "sucked in" to the attitudes and behaviors of those around me, especially at work. This has been a tough year at my school. It seemed that almost daily we were in the newspaper because of teacher indiscretions out side of school. Two teachers and one custodian lost their jobs and a third teacher will be returning in the fall.

As you can imagine, morale was low, rumors and gossip were flying. I usually try to stay out of the gossip, neither listening to or repeating the ugly things I hear. But as the year went on I found myself becoming more and more a part of it. And as I became more and more a part if it, the worse I started to feel.

I have been in a funk for months and I haven't been able to figure out why, but I think my participation in the unkind gossip has been the root of it.

So this 90 day Kindness Challenge will be my commitment to return to my anti-negative and anti-gossip ways at work. When I start summer school I will see many of the same people so I will be able to begin this change right away and I will continue it when school resumes in the Fall.

So, kindness will rule at work for me,
where will you add kindness to your life?

  4. Sheila, Thanks for sharing and joining me on this challenge! I too struggle with getting sucked into gossip and the negative attitudes of others. I will be thinking about you as you start summer school and work to stay positive...what a great example you are for others at work!

    Thank you again!

  5. Thanks for your post...I battle with the same thing. There is one person in particular that brings me bad news almost daily and I have tried nicely to tell her to stop, that I am only responsible for me, and that her reports hurt my view of those people and cause me pressure. I have even said, "I don't want to hear this." I don't want to hurt her, I do want to be a good testimony of the love of Christ, but don't know what else to do. I can so easily follow her down that gossipy path. uggggg.
