Happy Monday!! In celebration of Mondays, Mothers' Day and
Life in general, I am having a little give away.
To enter, just leave a comment with a Mother's Day story, a funny story about yourself, or anything else you would like to share.
The give away is open to everyone, everywhere and I will draw the winner sometime after 12:00 noon eastern time on Saturday May 8, just in time for Mothers' Day.
If I randomly draw your name, you will win a Moda charm pack: Summer's Basket of Flowers and 2 pretty pink fat quarters. I thought the pinks would be perfect in a Mom's day project.

So, enjoy your Monday, and HAVE FUN!!
And thank you, my friends, for stopping by!
I love the presents that my children buy from the school Mother's Day Stall. They get so much pleasure choosing something special themselves to buy for me. Just the anticipation on their faces when they give me the present makes it all worthwhile!
ReplyDeleteLet me tell you about my first Mother's Day. You should know that I had tried for years to have a child and required some serious medical intervention and surgery. FINALLY, I had my first child in the middle of March. I was SO excited when my first Mother's Day approached. Well....the surprise was that NOTHING was done for me. I was totally crushed. Hubby's reasoning was: The baby was too young to understand and when she WAS old enough to understand, he'd take her to buy something for me. I was devastated and let him know that....and you can bet the NEXT year, he DID get something for her to give to me.
ReplyDeleteI never know what to think about Mother's Day. Just being a mother is a gift, and one I wasn't sure I would ever get. I sort of smile as I watch my husband and children conspire together, when all I ever really want is them anyway.
ReplyDeleteBEing a mother is the greatest gift that you could ever be given. As I watch my children grow and mature I have to pat myself on the back as I think yes I did it. Every day that I see them be kind and responsible or someone tells me what great kids I have that is a mother's day gift to me.
ReplyDeleteBeing a mom is such a great blessing. It still takes my breath away how much I love my children, even now that they are grown and moved away. Makes me understand, just a little, tiny bit, how much God loves us.
ReplyDeleteI only have fur children but I do have a great mom! She is 88 and still gardening and walking her cute little dog, Ruby. Mom learned to fly a plane when she was in her 30's but then didn't get to fly for a long time. When she was in her 70's she took lessons and renewed her license and continued flying till she was 80.
ReplyDeleteMy Mom is no longer living, but she was very much an influence in my life. Her faith and her quilting are things that she shared with me. I know I am the mom I became because of her. I spent alot of time with Mom during her last years and I am so glad I could. Happy Mother's Day, Mom. I miss you.
ReplyDeleteMy kids do not get the concept of Mother's day, lol.
ReplyDeleteThey come over, and I do the cooking;) I have a special diet, so it is easier for me to do the cooking. I told them that if it was nice out, I was going kayaking, not entertaining them;)
Debbie
Last year for Mother's Day, my 5-year-old daughter gave me a plaque she made with her handprint on it. It's one of my favorite gifts I've ever been given.
ReplyDeleteHaving a give-a-way because it's Monday is a great idea. I made a quilt with Summer's Basket of Flowers, it's pretty fabric. (so I won't enter this give-a-way) My funny story is my daughter signed me up for something at church this up coming Saturday - maybe a mother/daughter lunch? When I asked about it, she didn't know what it is, what time, what I have to bring or any other info. And she's not a kid! She's 26! I was laughing so hard when she told me. I still don't know yet - but I better find out before Saturday!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks Sheila for the good birthday wishes!
Mother's day. I remember thinking that my kids would do something for me--I had six at the time--and looking forward to anything that they might do. Mother's day would come, and everyone, including my husband would be wondering what to do, or doing last minute cards. I would ask my husband why he didn't help the brood think of something, and he would always reply, "You're not my mother. :)" He was always joking!
ReplyDeleteI have the blessing my mom and my grandma are in my life. My grandma's 101 years old, and she's in perfect condition, she's healthy and she loves to laugh, I love her to pieces, she's the mommy of my mom, I lost my other grandma when I was too young. My mom's my sister, my best friend, even my nurse, lol, she means the world to me!
ReplyDeleteMy mother's birthday, anniversary, and mothers day are all within about a week of each other. Growing up, although my dad and I knew the general time of month we were notorious for forgetting the actual days, we're both 'big picture people' and have trouble with names, dates, etc. My mom would try to make a point by not explicitly reminding us when her birthday arrived. I always told her that that method only left her without presents and us feeling guilty, but it did work: I now have her birthday committed indelibly to memory.
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway! Please count me in! In Romania, Mother's Day is celebrated on March 8.
ReplyDeleteMother's Day for me is all about cards made by little hands from construction paper and crayons. I love seeing my kids interpretation of me! In some I'm a stick figure, in others wild curly red hair(bad perm)!,LOL, in others holding their hand or pushing them on a swing..priceless.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a story to share but as we await the impending arrival of grandson #2 who is due today, I'm hoping that HE will be my Mother's Day present
ReplyDeleteI am blessed to have my 83 year old mother live two minutes away from me. We still shop, sew, craft and laugh together like we always have. I am thankful everyday for her.
ReplyDeleteThank you for putting my name in your generous giveaway.
Mother's Day is hard for me since I lost my mom in 2008. But my wonderful 16-year old daughter is always so good to me on that day - and all others, I must say. Life is about taking the bitter and the sweet, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteWhat a very sweet giveaway! Mothers Day comes with mixed feelings. My own Mom has been gone for over 30 years. My hubby's Mom just turned 89 and is in poor health. I love being a Mom to my three children, although they are mostly grown now. I have been blessed with an Aunt who kind of took me under wing when my own Mom passed away. We did things together and had great times. She became the Grandmother to my children when they were born. This Aunt will turn 95 this year, and is in poor health. But I will always remember the great times we shared together. She is always close in my heart.
ReplyDeleteMother's day...spring flowers, handmade cards, breakfast in BED!!!!...when my children were home...Now it's out to a restaurant for breakfast! Great giveaway, what a sweet idea.
ReplyDeleteHi Sheila! This is a very sweet give away and so nice of you to honor Mothers on their special day!
ReplyDeleteI was not blessed with the ability to have children, and since Mothers' Day is usually a rough one for my husband and I at church as they honor all the moms, we are always in the nursery on that day. A few years ago we had the cutest little girl in our nursery class - her name was Summer, she was 2 and she came waltzing into the room in this lovely, frilly little dress. She was so delicate and girly, and was very polite and played so nicely with the other children. At one point she came up to me and told me that she needed to go potty. So I took her into the restroom and got her all situated and was standing there waiting for her to finish, when she looked up at me and in the most ungirly like voice and as serious as could be says to me, "I need a book - I'm gonna be a while." I thought I was going to kill myself laughing. That is a Mothers' Day I'll never forget!
What a sweet giveaway. Yep Mother's Day was breakfast in bed and Dad cooking. ;-) When the kids got older, they cooked. :-o Fun times! ~and funny combinations of favorites. LOL
ReplyDeleteI got the lovliest cards from my kids this year on Mother's Day (which is in March over in the UK). My favourite comment was from Jack, who loves my sewing, and wrote "My Mum is a brilliant sewer".
ReplyDeleteI love the look of anticipation from my boys as they wait for me to open their handmade gift. I've treasured each one I've received and my heart melts when I look at them.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn
I love getting homemade gifts from my children for Mother's Day. Such great keepsakes. Thanks for doing this give away! Happy Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteI love Mother's Day. It is my anniversary and my special time with my kids. When I got married I didnt even think about the fact that I would share my anniversary with Mother's day... And then I had kids!! I still make my hubby get me two different gifts - One for Mother's Day and One for my anniversary!
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing this giveaway!
Happy Mother's Day to you Sheila. I still have lots of cards and items made by my children around the home. I especially like the little boxes that have a love message in them. Happy days.
ReplyDeleteBev.xoxo
Thanks for a great giveaway! My mother has been gone for so many years that I honestly can't remember any specific Mother's Day stories, but I will say that the year after I lost my mom, I married my DH and along with him, I got the best MIL I could have wished for. She has filled the void left by my own mother's passing and I hope she is around for many more years.
ReplyDeleteI just want to say that I LOVE being a mom! And that my kid had a t-ball game last night, in which he made 5 outs! It was the first time the coach let him play 3rd base. It was an AWESOME night!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't stop smiling!
I miss the days when the kids were small and made Mother's Day presents in school. That was, generally, the only Mother's Day gifts I ever got. It's basically just another day for me. Nothing special....
ReplyDeleteI'm a young mom (this will be my 4th Mother's Day to celebrate as a mom) and while some of our Mother's Day celebrations in the past have not been ideal (I won't go into detail) I'm just happy to be a mom to 2 great little boys.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great giveaway!
Thanks for a wonderful giveaway. My part of the world we dont do Mothers Day!
ReplyDeleteI love mothers day. At least most of them. I have 7 kids which for the last 15 years I have raised on my own. Its been a joy and a laugh to watch them make me breakfast in bed over the years. Most of the time, breakfast was very edible, but one year the eggs were so so terrible I nearly croked from gagging! Believe me when I say terrible, frightfully bad terrible. I couldn't even imagine what they did to make it so bad, but it was. Of course, they never knew that it was. I don't most of it down the toilet when they left the room. Gratefully they have all improved their cooking skills, but sadly, there is only 1 left at home now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I am just thankful for my mother and how she raised me to be the person I am today.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a long time to become a mom so mothers day makes me feel so happy.
ReplyDeleteI've always celebrated Mother's day for both my mom and my grandmother. Usually I get them flowers, which I picked outside when I was little and which I ordered online once I moved away.
ReplyDeleteThis year, neither of them is getting flowers - my mom is getting napkins I made up out of produce-themed fabric and my grandmother requested a letter.
It was wonderful when the kids were in gradeschool and they would come home with their handmade projects for me. I loved to craft since I was a kid, so I appreciated the love they put into it. Once they outgrew that stage (I like Linda Pruitt above had six), there were no more gifts...maybe they'd run out and buy a candy bar (for an overweight woman I might add)....hubby just isn't a special day kind of guy, and if the kids aren't 'taught' it doesn't happen....so one year I bought my own gift...a grill...I felt so good. I don't buy something every year....but if I'm feeling insecure, I order me something I've wanted for a long time....some mother's are sad alot of hte time I think....Oh my...enough of that kind of thinking! I know I am loved every other day of the year!
ReplyDeleteI am mom to 3, and "bonus" mom to 4 more...my favorite thing about Mother's Day is breakfast in bed, but my kid's favorite thing is that we get a pie every yr from our church for having the most kids!

I am a mom to two beautiful healthy babies. They were both preemies - a son (now 16) at 26 weeks and a daughter (now 8) at 33 weeks. I lost several babies trying to have my second child and had just about decided that it would never happen when I found out I was pregnant. I would have had an entire yard full of children had I physically been able to carry them, but I had to have a hysterectomy at the age of 27 due to all of my reproductive problems. My children are truly gifts from God and I am eternally thankful to the Almighty for choosing me to be their mother.

I love mother's day because it is the only day I can get out of changing poopy diapers.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Mother's Day always started with my son making me breakfast and let me tell you he did it all on his own since he was 3, in the early years it was ceral on a milky tray with a dandelion, then he progressed to burnt toast and daisys, then eggs cooked just right, he worked a local Conv. Ctr and worked the omlet station and he would make sure I went there on Mother's Day. Those years are gone, we live states apart, the flowers come but how I miss the burnt toast...
ReplyDeleteI'm bad, I still have no idea what I'm giving or making my mom for mother's day this year! Last year I found a small and old black and white picture of my parents holding me after I was just born, and had it digitally restored and reprinted, and framed it for my mom, she loved it! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy mom & I always went out for breakfast on Mother's Day. Now that she is gone and my daughter is a mother to be, we will continue the tradition.
ReplyDeleteOn Mother's Day I give a card and gift to my daughters-in-law as a thank you for being terrific moms to my grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be the Mother's Day of my life - I am a new Grandmother! My first grandbaby was born three weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteHi there!
ReplyDeleteThanks for running this giveaway.
As for mother's day, my best memories are of going to a Mother's Day brunch at the officer's mess on various bases. This was always a dress up event with corsages for the moms, and best behavior from the kids (and great food and treats!
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity! Mother's Day means I don't have to cook:)
ReplyDeleteMother's day will be quiet. My only child too far away....My mom in assisted living and mother in law in nursing home..
ReplyDeleteWell, my little papillon thinks I am the best mom in the world!
One schoolyear our son had been busy for weeks (I suppose) growing a plant from seed and painted a pot for the little plant... he never walks but always runs and comming out of school he fell... so the painted pot was broken. Oh well, I glued it and after the plant died and many years later the pot still lives somewhere in our shed...
ReplyDelete;o)
I ♥ your giveaway, thanks for the prefun and all the story's from everyone.
:o)
Mother's Day is so special. First, because my 82-year-old Mother is still alive, quilting, sewing, cooking, gardening and I still get to share this special day with her and because of my two children. I have kept every Mother's Day card from them and they are 29 and 23 so I have plenty. I love going through these and seeing how they left a crayon mark because Daddy signed for them and how they signed their names with backwards letters when they were very young. Thanks for the giveaway and for letting me recall such wonderful days past.

I don't have a specific Mother's Day memory...I just hope to have many many more with my mom & grandma!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I wanted to say that I just found your blog via Jaybird Quilts' blog & I absolutely love both your blog name & your adorable cat! So sweet!
I had my son when I was only 17 and I was very ignorant of the proceedings so to speak. Anyway, I was in labor for 36 hours at the hospital and I still remember the nurses telling me that I had better get on the ball and have my baby if I wanted to make it in time for Mother's Day. He was born on May 7th and Mothers' Day was the 9th so "we" made it. My father bought me a dozen red roses with a yellow rose in the center representing my son and brought it to me at the hospital. My father is no longer with me in the body but I will always remember that Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteI think the best Mother's Day I've had yet was last year...my husband and daughter went away and left me in peace and quiet! I love my family, and they know just what I need!
ReplyDeleteI lovelovelove that pink fabric at the back of the photo! I am just learning quilting and my mum is teaching me to crochet. We're in England so I'm too late for mother's day here but I would love to do something for her with those fabrics anyway. My mum is the best person I know.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your blog, by the way!

My kids let me open my Mother's Day gifts early. It's a family tradition! We open all the Christmas gifts early too!
ReplyDeletemy daughter gave me a picture they made in her kindergarten class with a poem about fingerprints on the wall and her 2 handprints on each side. We framed it and it hung in the kitchen 25 years!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this giveaway. My favorite part of Mother's Day is doing something that my Mother wants to do. This Saturday it will be my mother, sister, and I having a girls' day together just eating and talking. It will be low key and fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm filled with mixed emotions this Mother's Day...my one and only child will be graduating from high school in four weeks and will be off to college before I know it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance!
My favorite Mother's Day was when we surprised my mom. My sister and I flew in from out of state and my 3 other sisters took her to have a pedicure. We were there at the nail salon to surprise her. My husband was there taking pictures and she saw him and said "I know him" but it didn't dawn on her who he was at first. She looked around and there we were. It was such a great surprise I don't even think we could do it again like that. So FUN!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a chance at a nice giveaway. I'm feeling sad about Mother's Day this year - Finally grieving my mother's death. Two of my daughters and two grandchildren will hopefully be here for mother's day dinner - that will brighten my day!
ReplyDeletewhat a great giveaway
ReplyDeletetoday is friday so im sitting infront of my computer "getting ready" to wash the flore and clean the house
im happy that i found your very cute blog
i also became a follower
have a great day!
and thanks alot!!
I love being a mother, my children make me laugh a little every day. Earlier this week I told my 4-year-old that he was a goofball. His response: "Well, I'm not a ball, but I AM GOOFY!!!"
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win. Happy Mother's Day to you!
Being a mother is the greatest joy in the world to me. When my youngest was seven he gave me a wonderful picture of himself framed with his hand prints. The poem on the back reads "This is the hand you used to hold when I was only seven years old". It still brings a tear to my eye!♥
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there♥
ReplyDeleteMy son was 5 and learning to spell. As he sat on the floor writing on some paper, he asked me how to spell "pretty". I told him, and then he asked how to spell "able". The way he said it sounded like "a bowl". I was confused, and he was getting frustrated. Finally he said, "able, like in lovable". At that point I asked him "what are you writing?" He hands me the paper, and on it, it said, "I love my mom because she is pretty and lovable". Though lovable is spelled loveable;-)
That so made up for Mothers Day 92, when he was 4, fell, cut his chin open, fell asleep while we waited in ER. Laying on my lap, he pee'd all over my lap. LOL
Blessings,
Jilly
One of my favorite quotes about motherhood is: "There is no way to be a perfect mother, but there are countless ways to be a great one!" I am blessed to be a mom - it is the most wonderful (and often most difficult) job in the world!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway - absolutely beautiful fabric!
thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteSadly, I'm not a mother and mother's day isn't really a big deal in our family. However, yesterday we found out that one of our local buffets charged $40 per person on mothers day (usually $13)! I learned that it was because mothers don't cook on that day!
