Makes Me Happy Monday 1/31

Can't believe that January is over!

We have gotten 43 inches of snow so far this winter, with no end in sight (18" more due this week).  While this seems like a lot of snow, Boston, NYC and Philly have all gotten more. Honestly I don't know where they put it all as the mounds around here are crazy.

I think  we are feeling it more this year because the last few winters have not been very snowy at all. Guess we are out of practice.

Thank you all for stopping by and commenting!! I do love the company. I haven't looked at blogs all week and I miss you!! Lots of grad school homework to be done I am afraid.

But, I am happy that I got my power point presentation done! (even if I still have two more projects to get done by the end of February)

And one final PS to my happy post from last week.... I am VERY happy that furnace repair people work on Sundays. AND I am very happy that they are able to make a quick fix to get me through the day until they can come back on Monday and replace the necessary parts at the cheaper Monday rates. whew......

Makes Me Happy Monday 1/24

Makes me VERY happy today that my furnace is all cleaned up and tuned and working
because we have air coming from SIBERIA by way of the Hudson Bay in Canada.....

So throw another log on the fire and get another quilt out of the closet, baby it's cold outside!

Tuesday Thoughts to Ponder

Teachers will love this one, but even if you are not a teacher, it is something to think about....

If an adult is reinforced for behaving
appropriately we call it recognition.

If a child is reinforced for behaving
appropriately we call it bribery.

If an adult laughs
we call it socializing.
If a child laughs
we call it misbehaving.

If an adult writes in a book
we call it doodling.
If a child writes in a book
we call it destroying property.

If an adult sticks to something
we call it perseverance.
If a child sticks to something
we call it stubbornness.

If an adult seeks help
we call it consulting.
If a child seeks help
we call it whining.

If an adult is not paying attention
we call it preoccupation
If a child is not paying attention
we call it distractibility.

If an adult tells their side of a story
we call it clarification.
If a child tells their side of a story
we call it talking back.

If an adult raises their voice in anger
we call it maintaining control.
If a child raises their voice in anger
we call it a temper tantrum.

If an adult hits a child
we call it discipline.
If a child hits a child
we call it fighting.

If an adult behaves in an unusual way
we call them unique.
If a child behaves in an unusual way
we refer them for a PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION!

Makes Me Happy Monday 1/3

Simple pleasure make me happy today. I had time to read an entire book this week!! AND it wasn't a book for work or for school it was just for ME!

I have read everything that Stephen King has written (some great and others not-so-much)
This group of short stories is some of the best stories he has written in a long time. Gritty and disturbing, but great stories!

Can't remember the last time I just sat down to read.... just me and the cats in the recliner!

Happy Monday, Happy Week!

Welcome 2011

It has been a busy year! It feels like I didn't get much accomplished, but I did get a lot more sewing done this year than in the last couple, so that is something! I have enjoyed looking at your blogs and seeing all your wonderful projects.. so here are a couple of mine (some still not 100% finished.. but at least I was sewing!)

Looks like a lot when it's all shown together like that, hm? All of your wonderful, creative blogs certainly gave me inspiration this year!

Yes..... what is next? Certainly plenty of UFO's..... #1 on my list is this HUGE quilt I pieced for my son about 5 years ago. Luckily he still loves Dragons and D&D and all that stuff..... It is SO big I dread quilting it....

That is just one of my UFO's.... going to try and finish some of those up and you know that I love the blogging quilt-a-longs. BUT keeping my new word in mind I will try to FOCUS on one thing at a time!

...And New  Year's Resolutions?? Nothing formally written down this year. Just going to FOCUS on doing my best and see where that takes me..... What about you?

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day. ~ Edith Lovejoy Pierce
