"Think you can't change the world? Too late, you already have. It was changed for the better the minute you were born. There are more people than you can imagine who will never be the same because they came in contact with you, if only for a fleeting moment." ~Gail Purcell

Wednesday with Whiskers

Today's life lessons, brought to you with whiskers.

If you scratch your friend's back, they will scratch yours later.

Listen to your body. If you are tired,
stop what ever you are doing and take a nap.

To stay young, have a child's playful spirit

If you should run out, a good friend will lend you a cup of love.

Keep your eye on the prize.

Makes Me Happy Monday 9/27

Fresh picked fall apples make me happy!!

When the kids were little we would go apple picking every fall. It was so much fun and we always had way more apples than we could carry. We would come home and make pies and fresh apple sauce. YUM.

I don't get out to the apple farm much now, but I do get fresh, local apples from nearby farm stands. I especially love the Cortlands and Macouns.

There is nothing like biting into a crisp, juicy apple!

What's New Wednesday

I have to admit, I do  A LOT of shopping on line. (a.l.o.t.) I love browsing, comparison shopping, reading customer reviews, etc. I don't have to fight the crowds and I can find a wider variety of just about anything on line.

Thanks to blogging and sites like Etsy I can also give the smaller entrepreneurs some of my business, without ever leaving home.

Last year at Christmas I found quite a few of my gifts on Etsy, home made and beautiful! And considering the amazing workmanship, the prices were more than reasonable.

Today I wanted to share one of the  small businesses from whom I recently made a purchase.

I purchased some name stickers for both my classroom and my daughter's room as well as a self-inking stamp for my books (This book belongs to). The prices were very reasonable, and the print quality is first rate.  The thoughtful, creative packaging really caught my attention and made me smile (Purple and green tissue paper with pink paper "curlicues". sweet!)
They have lots of great gifts for teachers, but there are gifts for everyone on your list! The holidays are fast approaching, so you may want to check it out.

I am not getting anything in return for this little commercial, but after opening my package today I just had to share!!

Have fun shopping! (and if you haven't shopped Etsy yet, check that out too)

Colorful Wednesday

I have fallen in love with all the beautiful solid fabrics that are available now. In the past, I have used tone on tone fabrics or the "marbles" when I have wanted a solid. But these new colors!! How can I resist the temptation! And how do I choose!?

And the color names!! I love them! Fig Tree Olive, Pistachio, Mist, Bright Sky, Hyacinth, Tea Rose......

Kona Cottons from Robert Kaufman:

And more clever color names from Kona! Mango, Lake, Honey,Berry, School Bus, Cardinal......

How do they come up with these names?
According to the Dog House Diaries:   women may
have some influence on color names
(no offense to men intended, this is all in fun!)

I can't get enough of these gorgeous solids, no matter how they get they original names! What about you?

Makes Me Happy Monday 9/6

Have you ever been the recipient of a Random Act of Kindness (RAOK)??

Maybe someone stopped and let you make a turn in traffic, or helped you with your packages at the store. Simple things like these can really make your day.

When I was at the grocery store this weekend, I was talking to the cashier and the bagger (young men in HS) and we were joking about coupons. I always lose my coupons or leave them home on the table, so almost never have any to cash in.

A women walking by offered me a coupon, and I said thank you, figuring it was 50¢ or 75¢ off an item. I looked at the coupon and it was $2.50 off your total purchase.

I quickly said to the woman, that she should  keep the coupon and  use it next time she was in the store. She just smiled and  insisted that I keep it and use it that day. I thanked her again profusely and she was on her way.

Now I know that $2.50 is not a huge sum of money, and I certainly could afford my purchases.

BUT this RAOK really warmed my heart and made me smile the entire day. I am smiling again as I type this. And I am sure that the woman who gave it to me was feeling the same warm, happiness that I was.

So, why don't we all try to do one RAOK this week for someone we don't know? Not only will you make someone's day, but you will make your own day as well.

Happy Monday and Happy Week!

PS: Until I get used to my new school schedule I am going to be a bit behind in my blog readings/comments I will get caught up soon!!

My Friends in New Zealand

I want to send hugs and prayers to all the people of New Zealand. They suffered an earthquake during the night of similar magnitude as the one that struck Haiti.

Fox News Images

Amazingly, NO ONE was killed thanks to the strong building codes in New Zealand. The damage to property and infrastructure is still tremendous.

So while you are enjoying the last official weekend of summer in the northern hemisphere, please think of our friends in the southern hemisphere and send them your prayers and good wishes. They will need it!
