Wind Storm 2010

wOw! The Northeast/East Coast of the US sure has been hit this winter. We haven't had as much snow as some of the cities to the south (weird, I know! Global warming, anyone?) But we had a horrible wind/rain storm here Thursday and Friday! My power went out Thursday night at 11pm and only just came back on Saturday about noon.... luckily it wasn't too cold outside so we managed okay.

But look at some of these trees that were knocked down in the area...There were wind gusts reported over 70 MPH!! I am lucky to have power at all!

Friday Fabric Fanatic Quiz

Found this little quiz, and even though most of us know we are a bit obsessive about fabrics, thought it would be fun to share it. There are a few other quizzes on the site if you are in the mood... have fun!

My OWOH Winner

Robbin was the winner in my OWOH give away and she received my package on Wednesday,
so now I can share some pics of the goodies I sent to her.

She won the little quilted bag that I made, and I filled it to the brim with little things from NH.
I had fun shopping like a tourist looking for keepsakes from the Granite State.

NH Postcards, car decal, moose mints, chocolate candy that looks like granite rocks, loon ornament, Yankee Candle car freshener, Old Man in the Mountain maple candy and pin, moose sachet, tea, earrings and for fun some St. Patrick's Day socks. Robbin said she had fun opening it, but boy did I have fun packing it!

And yes, it did all fit in the bag!!

Wednesday WIP

So, I seem to have lots of irons in the fire right now... and today I did some catching up...

The first blocks in my Pinwheel Sampler Quilt Along from p.s i quilt:(Verna fabrics)

My February block for Pat Sloans Calendar Quilt along:

And I just started a BOM with Val. I still have to do the embroidery; I've traced the design in blue. Going to add some buttons too, I think...

Was a snowy, sleety, rainy, raw day today.... good day to be in the sewing room!

Tuesday Thoughts to Ponder...

I signed up at a motivational website ages ago, and they send me "weekly powerful questions". I have often thought of unsubscribing, but whenever I do, I will get a question that really hits home with me. Like this one:

"In what ways do I allow the past
to steal my present?"

I still dwell on things from my past and allow them to affect my life now; in effect, stealing my joy of the present from me.
I know this about myself and it is something that I am working on this new year. I am working on forgiving and letting go of the pain from the past.

Interesting article from Psychology Today:
"The events of the past exist nowhere else but in our memories, which give rise to the feelings and thoughts we have about them. By themselves, of course, events are neutral. We place judgments on them based on how they affected us, rendering good judgments about those things which benefited us and bad judgments about those things which harmed us. It's the feelings that result from those judgments that remain with us, not the events themselves. And though we can't change our memories of events, we can change whether or not they harmed or benefited us."

"How then can we break free of the past? By using it as fuel for growth in the present. If an event from our past remains painful to think about, we should understand that pain as an indication we have unfinished business—not with whoever or whatever else was involved in the event itself, but with ourselves."

And so I continue with my journey ... more thoughts to ponder as I try and figure this all out. Thank you for all your support and insights! I appreciate any and all help I can get...

to think creatively about the future at all."

Makes Me Happy Monday 2/22

Happy Birthday George Washington!!!
When I went to school at PS 119 in NYC, we had both Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays off.... no long weekend  back then, we had the actually days off (2/12 and 2/22). We also didn't get a winter break, just an "Easter" break....
BUT the reason I am happy this Monday is I won a prize in the One World One Heart event!! I won this adorable bag made from a children's pair of Tommy Hilfiger pants and a belt! Isn't that sweet???

Halle from Halle's Hobbies sent this great prize to me!

Go visit her and see what else she is up to!

Thank you Halle, I love my little pants purse :)

Through Rain and Snow and.....

Lynette Andersen held a give away about a week ago and I won!!
The give away was  for her new design, Butterfly Cottage.
My pattern came in the mail yesterday all the way from sunny, hot Australia. (during our snow storm). I had checked the mail several times and when I didn't have anything, I figured they weren't coming. (snow storms do keep them away, despite what you may have heard in that old rhyme.)

So I was pleasantly surprised when went out to shovel and saw this:

Thank you Lynette!! Can't wait to make this!

Be Extra Kind this Week!

It is Random Act of Kindness week (2/15-2/21)!

Not that we need a reason to be kind to others, but The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation helps to raise awareness of kindness..... (Kind of sad when you think about it; people have to be made aware of kindness...)
This website has tons of free ideas for teachers, parents, kids, the community and workplace. There are lesson plans, arts and crafts and other projects. There are even free e-cards to send to friends and family.

Sometimes, those little things occupy the biggest part of their hearts."~Unknown

2010: November 13
World Kindness Week
2010: November 8-14

To add some kindness to your day, check out The Toy Society, Kind Over Matter, and A Beautiful Ripple Effect. These blogs always manage to warm my heart and bring a smile to my face.

And now, go out and do something nice for someone! We all need a little kindness in our lives....

Makes Me Happy Monday 2/15

Today is the day I get to pick the winner from my One World One Heart Give Away!!

I had SO much fun touring the blogs participating in this event. Sadly, I didn't get to visit them all (yet); but there were over 1,000 blogs entered this year!
I met a lot of great people and I hope that we continue to stay in touch now that OWOH is over for this year.

I would like to say thank you to all of the wonderful people who took the time to come and visit and to comment here on my blog. You all left the sweetest comments and you made me smile. I hope that you will drop in and visit now and then, I have enjoyed your company!!

Happy Valentines Day!

Hope that everyone has a wonderful Valentines Day!

And that you get to spend time with those you love.....

“Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.”  ~ Robert Heinlein

Maybe you got some beautiful flowers or yummy candies. Maybe your honey let you sleep late today or you will be going out for a romantic dinner.

No matter.... Love is in the air today and I hope that you breathe deep.

"We loved with a love that was more than love."~ Edgar Allan Poe

Maybe your romantic dinner was the flowers?

Love is the flower of life, and blossoms unexpectedly and without law, and must be plucked where it is found, and enjoyed for the brief hour of its duration. ~D.H.Lawrence

Give those you love an extra hug today! We shouldn't need a holiday or a special reason to remember to do things like this.... But we all tend to take people for granted sometimes...

I have nothing more to give you than my heart.~Spanish saying

“Love is just a word until someone comes along and gives it meaning.”

ZZzzzzz......

How much sleep do you get a night?  When I was younger, boy could I SLEEP! What I would have given to sleep late in the mornings! But with babies and all that goes along with them, if I wanted more sleep I had to go to bed earlier. There were nights I would go to bed at 9 just to get enough sleep.(and still feel tired)
Now that I am older and have only myself to worry about, I seem to be needing less and less sleep.I get up most mornings for work by 6:30 but I can't seem to fall asleep before midnight, or even later! That is only about 6 hours of sleep. Most days I feel fine although sometimes the circadian rhythm dips hit me about 2pm  and I feel SO drowsy!
I thought that as we get older we need less sleep, but I guess that is not really true. The Sleep Foundation recommends that adults get between 7-9 hours every night.

Looks like I have some catching up to do!
